I'm 33 hours into ownership of the 2018 MX5200 Kubota. She called for 15-20 minutes of 2200 rpms and spewed out a big ole cloud of crap
While I was waiting - I googled how often should the tractor call for regen. And I read every 15-20 hours depending...I was about 30 hours past my last regen.
Question is how often does your tractor regen and what rpm do you run at. I usually run at 1500 rpms because that's all that is needed for the light work I've been doing. BUt I read i'm supposed to be running higher rpms - seems wasteful of fuel and motor service life. What say you TBN ?

My L3901 has 276 hours on it and I can’t remember the last time it regen’d. It really bothered me when it did it every 16 hours at first. I have been running high rpm, iirc close to 2500.

Being that it "spewed out a big ole cloud of crap" at 33 hours means one thing...time to start working it. You will get more work done, it will run cleaner, and will run cooler without a plugged up DPF. Unless I'm entering/exiting the shed, I'm at 1800+ or at pto speed for work.

Even an older tractor will run cleaner if you kick up the RPMs. My last tractor started mean and smoked constantly when I got it. After a while I dumped Sea Foam in and started running it a bit harder; the smoke started cleaning up and eventually was virtually non existent.

I see now. I came from a long line of shuttle shift tractors. This is my first HST tractor . I set the rpms higher 1600 ish and selected a lower gear (range). Tractor worked good like that but I suspect fuel consumption will go up -

I'll stick with my 1982 [AFFILIATE=1, nofollow=true, newwindow=true, title="Kubota"]Kubota[/AFFILIATE] L245dt without the regen bullcrap. Gear drive 600hrs and run it the way I want not how the government decides.

Certainly something to be said for that kind of simplicity Jimbo... unfortunately it is proven that the new systems produce less pollutants so we must all comply or buy pre-emissions tractors. I've had 2 older machines over the last 25 yrs or so.

There are still plenty of older tractors with no emissions available to purchase. One of the reasons I bought a new tractor (besides wanting larger) is my 2000 model JD gave me a sinus headache every time I used it for longer than 30 minutes because of the emissions. It wasn’t fun. Now I can use my new tractor all day without getting any sinus problems, so that’s a huge win for me.

Engines these days burn so clean. Not only the common rail ones but also the mechanically injected ones.

The 35HP mechanically injected engine on my 2017 tractor doesn't have emissions, just a simple good ol'muffler. It wasn't required at the time to have emissions. That only started in 2021 or 22. Anyway, about the only time I see smoke, it's just a brief puff when cold starting the engine. Other than that, I get absolutely no visible smoke or even any signs of smell at all.

I've never seen a pre-emissions tractor that burned diesel but didn't smell like it burned diesel. That one is a real keeper.

I wanted a new tractor with a cab. Not a used tractor that was someone's problem before I owned it. I bought a new tractor and with it came DPF. So be it. I haven't had any real issues with mine. It regens at 100% soot level which translates to about 100 hours. I don't smell diesel or see diesel smoke. I don't even know it's any different other than the DEF fluid. If it gives me problems I'll deal with it. But one thing is for sure, it doesn't scare me.
