Kubota Orange Paint?

I agree. I baught a used 3pt hitch blower over the summer that was pretty rusted. After wire wheeling it, I brushed on rusty metel primer and then went over it with Allis Charmers color orange. I was happy with the finish for brushing it on. The color may have been a shade off but close enough. The color was not any worse than the different shade that are already on the tractor, (cylinders, fel arms, and rims) all orange from factory, but different shades.

A small foam roller should give you a little smoother finish. The rolled on should give you a thicher coat than a spray can. I bought the spray cans anywhere from 8-12 bucks a can. I also found it very thin, hard to control the running. But it works. The quart of orange at the dealer was about $25 if I recall. I walked out hurting on that one. :)

If they have the color you need, the Rustolum hammer finish paint seems to hold up real well and rolls on thick. I've painted several outdoor items a year ago and the paint looks new. This stuff sits outside all day everyday.

That's good to know. How tough is it? The stuff I bought says its specifically made for the rugged uses of farm equipment (which may be just marketing lingo).

So, after sanding the heck out of the back blade to rub off the "sheen" of the old pale yellow, and to get as much rust off of it as possible (its amazing how much rust implements accumulate while sitting outside at TSC for who knows how long, and they are called "new"), I put on three light coats, applying the second and third coats while the previous coat was still a little tacky (it suggests that on the can). Then, I went over the entire thing with a fine fourth coat of Kubota original orange to bring it very close to the tractor's color. Looks very good. We'll see how it holds up.

Here's an annoying tidbit I discovered last night at Lowes when looking for stove paint - they sell JD green and yellow - for like $4 a spray can...
Guess that's what happens in Deere country...

Bought a can of Kubota Orange and Massey Frerguson Gray at TSC today for $3.98 per can. Both look to be a close match. They also have Kubota Orange New which looks a little too red for my BX22

Really? That's good to know. They didn't have Kubota orange when I went there (at the new--and much larger--Inver Grove Heights TSC). I didn't look for gray, although I need it for nicks and scratches on the exterior of the frame and 3 pt. hitch.

TSC in Olathe, Ks. has the spray can's of Kubota Orange. Didn't check for brush-on paint but the catalog, 48th Edition pg.368 (BPS Paint), says they carry it. I used some of the Orange on my bucket today and it's a real close match and seems a quality paint also. I need to retract my earlier statement about the Massey F. Grey. It does match my middle buster but when I painted my ammo tool box, it was somewhat lighter than my ROPS grey. When comparing colors, It helps when you do it in the sunlight;)

I am quite satisfied with the Allis Chalmers orange I bought at Menard's. In the sunlight, its just a little more orange than the more red-orange of the Kubota. I can't say the paint strikes me as necessarily better quality than the kind I used to use as a kid to paint an old bike, but after sanding, scraping, cleaning and then repainting the King Kutter, it truly looks new (whereas, when I bought it "new" it looked five years old).

I sprayed a bit of "Honest to God $10 a Can Kubota Orange" on my FEL to cover a minor nick. While the quality of the paint is exceptional...very glossy and thick...it was CLEARLY a brighter orange than original. A bit of a bummer. I was assuming that it would match better given it's from the manufacturer, but if I use it as touch up, it'll look like my tractor has some type of skin disfunction. Or sun spots. Whatever. Stupid paint is too darn bright. Work perfect on a bucket or implement NOT connected to the tractor. If touching up tractor, I guess I'll try taking it to an automotive place and getting some paint color-matched.

That's too bad. Did you really, really shake the can? I only ask because I did some touch up on my BX 2230 grill guard (I was also spraying a little plastic statue of St. Francis of Asissi which we had found in the dirt of the garden and I glued to my grill guard) with a can of Kubota Orange and the match to the tractor was nearly perfect.

I have also read somewhere that they sell "Kubota Orange" and "Kubota Newer Orange". I think the newer Kubotas have a little more red in them.

Shook it OK...ball was rattling for some 30 seconds. When I first used the can a few weeks ago, it took over 2 minutes of vigerous shaking to get the ball even going. Normally invert can to clear nozzle after use to prevent clogging...dunno. Maybe I could have shaken it more. Never been an issue, guess. I can't say I've shot a small segment of something that costs the equivalent of a car (never been that concerned for the match).

Guess I'll have to take a look for the latest generation "Kubota Most Newester Orange" paint. Geez. Why don't they make it a little more complicated.

I have pretty good luck with this stuff. It's 100% soybean oil based. I brushed it on some implements that I fabricated and it held up pretty well through the summer sun.

"It's 100% soybean oil based."

Well that's a gimmick I'm not sure I've seen around town. Bean paint. Does it cut with thinner or water?

Or soy milk?

Sorry. I had to.

It cuts with thinner instead of soy milk for sure..... but is terrible on cereal! URRRP!

Just got back from my TSC and bought up the LAST three cans of New Kubota Orange and sprayed my RED Speeco Auger with it. For $3.98 a can it sure went on and covered nicely. Only used 3/4 can for the 2 tubes with 2 coats.

Not to keep beating the horse, but per Mr. ProudestMonkey's input I just bought a can of Kubota "Bright Orange II" instead of the too bright stuff, just normal "Orange" I bought before.

Sprayed the same spot I shot before on my loader. Honestly, I have to get right up on it to even see where I sprayed. Matches absolutely 100% perfect. Couldn't be closer. Same darn color.

More expensive way to go, so I may not use it on things not directly attached to the tractor, but handy to have around in case you need it.

I just came back from TSC half an hour ago. I was there to buy some "Brush Killer Concentrate (TSC Brand)." Of the 4 to 5 solutions I've used for killing off Buckthorn, this seems to work the best.

Okay, back to the point. While there, I picked up a couple of cans of Valspar brand "Kubota Orange (Newer)" Tractor Implement oil-based spray paint, which you can tell by the cap is less bright than standard "Kubota Orange" and has a little red in it. I haven't sprayed it yet, but comparing it to the cap on my Kubota Brand "Bright Orange II" can and the "allis-chalmers" orange, it is clearly a closer match to the Kubota stuff. Oh, and here's the real kicker. The Kubota stuff cost $10 per can. The Valspar stuff was $3.98. Hope it works as well (and even if it doesn't, the cost savings make it worth using a little extra to get the same affect).

When I bought my tracter this year the dealer said I wanted bright orange II not the bright orange. He said the bright orange was for older kubotas.

I think it voids te warranty if you put the old paint on the newer kubotas.

all this painting stuff...a little ocd? :) :D
