But to be totally up front with you, I am very biased against HST. It might be irrational, it might be paranoid, it might be my frugal leanings, it might just be a personality thing but I just don't like the idea of HST. The idea of spending more money, for more complexity, and less horsepower just so I don't have to shift gears is something I can't imagine. And yes, I did drive one. The dealer insisted, so I did. Very nice. Not for me.

I like your thinking too.. I just like the solid feel of shifting my tractor. If it takes longer than a HST, that just means more butt time before I have to put it away. Why rush time with my tractor. If I did use it to make money, I too might go with HST.

N80, I don't understand your argument at all. The geared L4400s seem to be going for $19K to $20K with FEL, adding HST would put one up to around $21K. From what I've seen here, before the clearance prices hit, the Grand L30s in the 45HP class were close to $25K with FEL while the L40s are a bit more.

Sure, I might be way off. But, we're both speculating right? I'm speculating that the difference between the machines might be smaller than that once HST is added to the L4400. It was also my impression that the comparable Grand L's were a little lower than what you're saying.

And still, HST in the L4400 is also just speculation as far as we know...which was my first point. I'm certainly not against it and if the price differential between an HST L4400 and a comparable Grand L is substantial, then it might be a success. If the price differential is small though, then it doesn't make any sense at all to me since the Grand L's typically give you higher loader and 3 pt hitch capacities.

We'll only know when they hit the showroom floors.

I like the thought of the hydro on my L4400 but 2 things come to mind.

1. Loss of HP in the rear
2. I can go faster when clearing land and screw something up. :)

I am settling into my L4400 just fine the way it is I think.
