I need advice as to whether i need a RMM or MMM, side discharge/rear discharge, 5, 6 or 7 foot finish mower for my tractor. Will be cutting around 8 acres on a weekly basis, fairly flat, some small trees that my wife has planted.
thanks

Don-There are good and bad points about having either a MMM or RMM. I can tell you that a 3010 will easily handle a 72" mower and a 84" mower if you mow frequently. If you get a RMM, I would recommend a rear discharge. Do a search and you will find more than you want to know about mowers. Each individual has his own preference. A RMM is also quite a bit cheaper than a Kubota MMM..

Unless your tractor is going to be a dedicated mowing machine ask how easy it is to install and remove the mmm for that model tractor. If it's like mine, it's a b*tch. An RFM will be a lot easier to hookup and remove.

I prefer the RMM with a side discharge. 1) because the RMM is so easy to remove and replace. 2) the side discharge allows me to attach a leaf vaccum in the fall to pick up all the leaves the trees leave. I did have to make a hitch on back of the mower deck to attach the vac to. Sure beats a rake when there is 3 acres of grass with lots of trees.

I wish you well.

does the rear discharge leave clumps of grass like a bushhog does? also, what brands seem to be of higher quality? I don't necess. have to have a manicured lawn, but would like it to look nice.

thanks for all the good info,

Bill, I sure hope I haven't talked out of turn but there is a recent thread talking about the lack of clearance with R4 tires and a MMM on the Kubota L tractors. Seems like poor planning on Kubota's part and I am a Kubota fan.

Mrhurt, what type of tires are you running on your 3010?

I have a LandPride 60" rear mount rotary mower and it cuts great. My orchard looks terrific. I could have gone with a bigger rotary deck and may do that some day but I see no reason to go with a MMM.

I have a RMM on my L4310. LandPride rear discharge 84 inch cut. Works great. I have mostly open straight runs. Also have a MMM on another tractor. The MMM is better for getting close to obstacles and trying to trim with it. What do I use? I use the RMM. But that's because of the open land I have.
Getting used to the RMM takes a season or two because you've got this large thing swinging around behind you.
The LandPride was expensive but I can't kill it. It'll even cut 1 inch trees without a problem.
I also find the RMM is easier to take off as I use the tractor for other things.
You say you've got 8 acres. I would get the biggest cut in whatever version you choose.

i have r1 tires , ag tires, i deal with a lot of clay and hills, so i thought i needed the extra traction.

for my 2 cents, i could not imagine having a belly mower this big and taking it on and off. for some that might be ok, but not me. i'm offroad to much.
