Mowing Kubota diesel overheating.

If you run a diesel engine too lean, temperatures spike and NOx emissions go through the roof. Just ask Volkswagen. They did that experiment, globally.

Yeah, just adjust the carburetor screws for a richer mixture, raise the float level, and/or clean out the main jets. :sneaky:

Make sure the throttle plate isn't sticking open. too.

I mowed today with it after everything was put back together and it ran the coolest it’s ran in summer temps for a long time so I think it’s fixed.

I deal with over heating every day. My MF7495 and Pottinger hay mower gets hay chaff on the hood gills and the rads practically on the hour. Especially if the hay is dry and gone to seed.
It has air brakes and I often wonder about plumbing an air hose into it, put a coupler on end of hose and clicking in a long wand to blow out the rads.

Not a bad idea. How I used to blow out the cab of my truck.

I had the same issue on my Kubota, as 4570man said, the belt had worn down to the point the belt had bottomed out in the pulley. it never made a sound as it slipped on the pulley but it wasn't turning the water pump fast enough to keep the coolant flow equal to engine speed. looking at it i noticed the top of the old belt was even with the top of the pulley groove. when I put the new belt on, the belt sat about a 1/16" above the pulley rim which meant the new belt was grabbing the sides of the pulley groove and not ridding on the bottom of the pulley groove, once it reaches that point the belt is shot, got your monies worth and time to replace.

Have seen many overheating problems in small diesels with weak injectors. A dry cylinder will do exactly what you have going on. Being used to larger diesels I found it odd but it is common in non-American builds.
