Kubota B7200HST
This afternoon I had my 1984 b7200hst out idling in the yard. About 10 minutes after being started, the engine sputtered and stalled. When I tried to start it, it started for a second and died. Pulled the fuel filter. That looked fine. Removed it and reinstalled the filter container. Turned the tractor over for about 10 seconds, then removed the container. Hardly any fuel in it. I’m thinking the fuel pump failed. What would be the easiest way to verify this before ordering a new one?
The other question is how do you tow a tractor that doesn’t run? I certainly don’t want to damage the transmission.
Any and all input appreciated.

First guess: it was below 12 or 15 degrees F. Fuel gelled. Probably there was a tiny difference in temperature from the tank and fuel lines on into the injection pump and engine. Had enough fuel inside the heavy metal to run for a short time and then external gelled fuel got to your fuel pump. Get it warmed up (whole machine) and retry to confirm. If that was it, mix in #1 fuel oil from now on. Up to 50% is OK. Some like additives, I prefer kerosene. Whatever you add to the fuel, run it long enough to get fully through the pumps, filters, etc.

Towing an HST is not a problem -- I'm not talking 30 mph down the road but by hand or with another tractor. With the Go Pedal in neither FWD nor REV you are in neutral. No harm.

I belive they are gravity feed to the filter bowl and the pump draws from there. It's been a while since I've had my B7200. Possibly clogged tank outlet is what it sounds like.

As for moving, just shift the range selector into neutral and you can move it no problem.

An HST with pedals neither forward or reverse is NOT in a position to be towed. The HST acts like a brake in this condition. Example: try pushing a zero turn mower or riding mower with HST. They won’t move unless tow valve is opened.

On Compact tractor placing the gear range selector in neutral will allow tractor to be towed without damage to HST.
