After running a seed drill for a couple of hours (drill raise and lower at end of each pass), checked hydraulic fluid.

When I pulled the dipstick, a geyser of hydraulic fluid shot out until I put the dipstick back in. Rear case was hot enough to melt the filler cap. Engine temp normal.

Thoughts?

First thought is did you have one of remote levers locked in detent position or 3 point asking for raise all the time. Either of these would keep pump at relief pressure creating heat.

This based on your tractor having a gear pump.

Pull type or 3 pt ? It’s easy to pop a remote lever into detent and not notice especially on a turn around trying to get lined up.

Thanks guys. I done that before with the detent. I didn't think I was today. I will run the drill again with that in mind.

Appears to have been the ham fisted operator and the detent. Will see how it goes.

Thanks.

Glad it was a simple fix.
