Hey guys, What a great forum this is and you all seem like a great bunch of knowledgeable folks that are willing to help a newbie out.

Here is my predicament, My Dad has an L3010 AWD Hydrostat with turf tires. It is about 7 years old and has 58 hours on it. He bought a b 7800 (I think) and said I could have the L3010.
Here is my dilemma, I need something more in the line of a back hoe. I have a couple acres and need to do some digging and clearing, so would I be better off to just sell this tractor and buy a back hoe or is this tractor worth investing 12 grand into it to outfit it with a Backhoe and Bucket?
Thanks

7 years old and only 58 hours?
With only 58 hours the machine has barely been used. I would add the attachments to the 3010.

I had an L3010 for years and was very happy with it. I had a Woods BH7500 and was able to do a LOT of work with that combo. My only question would be the load bearing capacity of turf tires, but I don't use them...

Any of you turf tire users out there comment on their suitability for backhoeing and FEL use? In my experience, having a backhoe equates to pushing the limits of the FEL capacity to move all the dirt and rocks you dig up.

We have quite a few out that run that combo in the smaller sizes of tractors picking up the versatility of one tractor doing everything.
It will require higher tire pressures when using the loaders full capacity and they often fill up in wet conditions so use caution.

I found myself sort of in the same situation as you a few years back. I bought 40 acres in Norther Vermont and really wanted a CUT after I built my house. The trees up here up to 3 feet in diameter so a Kubota with a backhoe would have been outmatched.

I ended up buying a Case 580K backhoe and later a Case 450 dozer. Now that my house is done I'm trying to decide if I should sell the backhoe to fund the new Kubota or keep it. I probably have $15 grand into both pieces of equipment and I'm sure I could get $10k+ for the backhoe. That would be a nice downpayment but now I'm thinking selling the backhoe it would only pay for a loader and backhoe attachment. So why not get a Kubota without each and keep the backhoe.

Anyway my point is if time is an issue or if the work you are going to try to do is going to put a lot wear and tear you might want to look around and see if you can pick up a used backhoe instead of spending the money on the attachments.

With only a couple of acres I can't imagine there is anything that the L3010 can't handle easily. Depending on how much backhoe work you actually have it might make more sense to just buy the loader and rent a small track excavator to dig whatever you need done.

If you had 20 acres I'd just buy the hoe but for just a couple....I don't know.

Good Luck,
Kevin
