FINALLY...one of all three of ours in one photo. The red tabby on top is Gizmo...4 year old male and rescued from under a neighbor's shed at 3 months old. The middle one is a she calico, Misty...adopted from a 92 year old lady who found a litter of barn cats a mile away. Misty is just over 7 months old. The black and white one is Zeke...6 years old and adopted at 11 weeks when his feral mother abandoned him.

LOL she likes to boss around the guys already although she gives up a few pounds to them....

That is mostly true. There are male calico cats but they are almost always sterile.

I stand corrected.

My father-in-law always said there are no male calico cats; they are for sure very rare. A person could go their entire life without encountering one so it would be normal to think they don't exist. I think modern genetic studies provides insights that didn't exist earlier.

The male calico cat has a genetic defect involving the X and Y chromosomes which determines gender. I think I read somewhere that male calico cats don't have a clear male or female sexual identity, sort of like transgender humans.
