Tractor
2015 Kioti RX7320PC, 1983 Kubota L275 4WD, 1981 John Deere 2440 2WD row crop tractor
My 2015 RX7320PC all of a sudden won't start. When I turn the key, no sound, no dashboard lights, nothing. I've checked to ensure that it's in neutral and that all lights are off. I put a trickle charger on it and left it overnight. No change. I put my battery charger on it. Not able to get it to charge. I've never replaced the original battery. I keep my Kioti in our barn.

Suggestions?

10, possibly 11 years old on a battery, I would say you got your moneys worth out of it. Have you measure the voltage on the battery?

My battery charger doesn't register any voltage. I was hoping the battery still could be charged.

If it's one of those electronic chargers and if the battery is dead or halfway there, then it won't charge at all. Doesn't even try.

I'll have the battery checked today for usability. At the same time, I am wondering if a fuse may need replacing. Thoughts?

You’re just guessing without testing. Until you determine if battery has failed or not who knows. Remember your tractor is computer controlled. If there isn’t enough voltage to boot up the computer then everything will be completely dead like you are experiencing.
I would though check cable ends for corrosion and make sure you have tight connections. Check ground cable where it connects to frame for the same. That’s just good practice since you are taking battery out anyway.

In addition, I recently read of an ECU failure ($$$) that was diagnosed as having burned up during cranking with an already bad battery. Presumably due to low voltage / high current.
At the time I was monitoring my 10 year old battery slowly degrade, and decided to just replace it. I use failing batteries for my diesel transfer pump, so I can still use them to the end.

UPDATE: I believe the source of my "dead" battery has been discovered and fixed.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I removed my 10-year-old frozen battery from its base with difficulty. Evidently, because the battery was dead, it froze and swelled, making it very difficult to remove. Once removed, I took the battery to a NAPA store, bought a new one for $200, and installed it. The tractor started right up, making me think the old battery was the problem. NOT.

Yesterday, I went to start my tractor to clear snow from our parking area/driveway. The tractor wouldn't start. No clicks. No dash lights. Nothing. Something had drained the new battery down. It wouldn't register on my charger, so I called in a mobile tractor mechanic who does barn calls. He came right over on a Sunday. He brought his heavy-duty portable commercial charger and started charging the new battery. After a few minutes, the battery had enough voltage to reveal that my cab dome light was on. A few weeks ago, I must have left the dome light on and forgot to turn it off. The dome light had drained my old battery.

Lesson learned: Make sure I turn off all lights.

Most likely needed a new battery anyway. Keeping an older battery in service puts additional strain on your alternator belt, and alternator. One way to check the battery and charging system is to have a battery and charging system tester. I bought the one Project Farm recommended. Little pricy, got it at the black Friday sale.
