I have had my Mechron 2200 for about 3 months and my cvt belt has started to squeal. I opened it up and there is lots of slack in the belt and was wondering if anybody knew how much slack is normal
or how you would go about taking up some of that slack
I am 8 hours away from any dealers
any help would be appreciated

Does your belt squeal all the time or only under certain conditions? My Mechron has 20 hrs, so far, no problems (touch wood) :duh:

squeals under load and when I'm coasting....mine has 30 hours on it..belt is loose enough that I can reach in and take it off easily or make the top side touch the bottom side without any effort at all

Seems to me, there is a belt adjustment procedure in the manual. I'm not home now (where my manual is) have you read yours?

There is no belt tightening procedure in the manual

You should give your dealer a call, if its still a warranty issue, he can fix it or if its not, he can get you the procedure to adjust/replace it.

There is also a workshop and parts manual for this machine. Based on your proximity to your dealer, you may want to consider ordering them. Keep posting the process you follow to get this fixed as others may have or develop the same problem and will find your posts helpful. Good luck.

Then I'd order the Workshop and Parts Manuals (probably $125 for the pair) and go about figuring out how it works, therefore how to fix it myself. He probably has never worked on one, so he's giving you the old "Bring it in and I'll have a look at it" line.

I'll check mine tomorrow and take some pics if that helps.

Hey Mitch, haven't forgot you, the Mechron is at the cottage and I haven't had a chance to get there. Probably going up this weekend and Ill try to get pics for you.

Hazarding a guess here, NOT knowing anything specific to a Mechron: there has to be a way to tension the belt you are referring to. I would think it it done by a spring loaded idler wheel.
Can you post pics of the belt and pulleys that it wraps around? I suspect the tensioner is near the top of the engine. Perhaps it has let loose and overstretched the belt?:confused3:

Thanks Rick,
I pulled the secondary (driven ) pulley off and found that probably one of the guide pins had slipped out of position not allowing the pulley to get back into the closed position....leaving it open by 3/4"
my dealer ok'd that I ship just the pulley to them for Waranttee work ....much easier and cheaper then sending the whole UTV out to them

hopefully back in business before too long

That's awesome, hopefully you're back in business again soon! I think I would still get the W/S and Parts manuals if I were in your situation.

as with a lot of other cvt systems ...tensioning is done by adding or removing shims
