I purchased a new alternator and this has not solved the problem. I have 12v at
the main power post on the alternator, there is 12v applied to the red wire when
I turn on the key. Looking at the diagram, the second red/striped wire appears
to go through the diode and through the dash light. Not sure what reading I'm
suppose to get there or if the wire harness might be at fault. I see no damage
and the fuse is good. Any ideas????

Thanks
Joe

Do you have a digital multi-meter? Check available voltage at the battery post with the engine off, then check available battery voltage with the engine running at idle. After this check available battery voltage with engine running at 1,200 to 1500 rpm.

Report back with the results.
Engine off : 12.5 to 12.75 volts
Engine running at idle : 13.5 to 15 volts
Running at higher rpm: 13.5 to 15 volts.
Report back with your results as this is a very simple check. Thank you and we will go from there

Okay I did as asked and since I had a fresh charge on the battery my initial reading was 12.8 volts
after starting my reading started out at 12.4v and slowly stabilized at 12.6v. Bringing the RPM's up to 1500, I still maintained the 12.6v. No lights were on.
With the engine still running I unplugged the two wire plug (Red and Red/white) and got the same exact readings.
There is no output from the alternator.

ya, you should be reading 14+ volts while running.

Check power with it running at back of alternator, ground the black lead off your meter, red one to the hot lead off the alternator, if you don't have 13.5 to 15 there, you have a new bad alternator...If you have good juice there, you will know to look elsewhere.
