King kutter tiller loud banging

Any update, after the weekend? I also have an oiled, greased new/untested KK tiller sitting in the shop, waiting on weather...

You ARE engaging the PTO at a slow speed, ramping up RPM, then engaging the ground slowly, right?

Is it a continuous banging, or just one bang? Is it slower banging (tine rotation speed) or a fast banging (PTO shaft speed)?

recently purchased king kutter tiller. Put oil in and grease tiller as well as pto shaft. Had to cut down pto shaft by 2.75” to fit tractor. When pto in engaged all is well but once tiller touches the ground it make a loud banging sound. Any idea what the problem could be?

Some pictures might be helpful for someone to figure out what the problem is.
Since you are a new member I’m also wondering how much previous experience you have with operating 3 point hookup PTO equipment ?

If you haven’t engaged the ground I would guess the drive chain. Engaging the ground would put it under tension and tend to quiet it down.

Gear box on top chain on the side. Pretty sure that would be the configuration.
