Absolutely! I've been using the same cutter you got for about 7-8 years now, good cutter so far, never even sharpened the blades yet, still cuts grass good, maybe vibrates some now, maybe time for new blades?

mine don't have chains on it anymores

But,I cut grass mainly/weeds,on known ground.

Foggy,
Be sure to test the fit the first time raise it all the way on the back or your tractor. It depends on the tire size, but my 6' KK cutter comes closer than 5" to my tires when fully lifted.
It's definitely a safety improvement! Nice job.

Well, good for you than. On my non bussiness single tractor operation I HAVE observed it.

Your original comment was "chains on hogs generally don't work out as planned,.....". Pretty bold statement. And for the most part, pretty WRONG statement. They may not work in YOUR instance, but "in general" they do. They not only work, but work well in MOST cases.

Yeah was wrong in that statement,I got two tractors in my non bussiness use thing going on here[originally said one].

Green, next time you pop a chain, try replacing with G70 rated. It will probably last longer.

In my (not so) humble opinion, shooting chain links out is probably just as bad as chunks of stuff. I know when the tire chain came off and was run over by the mower it sounded like I was taking fire! But seriously, the higher quality chain is a LOT stronger and will last longer making it cheaper in the long run.

Foggy, No need to be taking any of the normal "banter" personal. You have made your equipment much safer than it was. Some of us (me) run into stuff with the mower and that type of abuse is hard on the area that gets whacked. If you don't whack stuff, it will be fine.

Farm, 21,000 acres? How many sets of blades do you go thru in a season? (and I bet you are happy the fuel prices have dropped!)

With 3 batwings and 2 single spindle mowers, that's a total 22 individual blades. We broke 2, wore out 6 more, and have a complete change (spares) on the service truck. The batwings all got new blades in the last few days, getting ready for next season. Also, adding 2 MORE 15' batwings to the fleet. Of that 21,000 acres, roughly 5,000 got 3 cuts per summer, totalling 15,000 acres of cutting. The remaining 6,000 was single cuts. The total acres will drop this year. I lost the contract on 2 large tracts, but will be picking up 177 miles of state hwy ROW mowing and 210 miles of county road ROW.

I bid most jobs with a base price and a fuel sur-charge. As the price dropped, sur charge will drop accordingly. I've contracted fuel through the end of October. This years prices shouldn't need adjusting as fuel goes back up. (and it will according to my supplier)

John, No harm...no foul....no problem. At times guys gotta have a thick skin around these boards if your gonna post your ideas though....and even then things can get miss-interpreted pretty easilly.

I hear ya on making it strong enough....operating around timber is hard on everything. I just may throw a pair of gussets in the corners yet.....before spraying some paint on it and calling it good to go.

Ford850, So noted....and will check it again. I have the Pat's quick attach on the back of my tractor which gives me a few extra inches clearance....but even so....I think I have clearance to spare. This is partly due to having the smaller of the available tire sizes on my tractor (one issue I wish I could change...affordably). But. on the brighter side....I got a lower center of gravity...lol.

I shouldn't tell you this, but when I ordered the BB600 I spec'ed it with chains. The order had that written on it, but they "forgot" to order them. I got the cutter, and asked where the chains were --> pointing to the invoice that listed them. Apologies all around and a late order. They came in 3-4 weeks later and I installed them. Then I double checked the invoice and realized that they also "forgot" to charge me for them.

hehehe
