Yes it comes with a wand if you want it. I didnt put one on this rig, have other sprayers I use for spot work.

I had to show mine when ever I bought some at our local feed store.

In Texas Grazon products are restricted use, so yes I have a private applicator license.

I am using GrazonNext instead of the older P+D because I dont want Picloram in the soil, this newer product has Aminopyralid. I try to only use it once a year, as per the label you are not supposed to use no more than 2.1 pints-per-acre a year, and no more than two applications a year. I may, however, use some Pastora later this summer to rotate and get other target species and help get the johnson grass also.

I don't have nearly the area to spray as you do, so I got a 25 gallon ATV sprayer from TSC and set it in the bucket. I've used it to spray about 2 acres that I plan to plant in long leaf pines next spring. Not spraying for bugs but anything that's green and grows. It does a pretty good job and covers a 20 foot wide area. And I've since used that hand sprayer about as much as the main sprayer, hitting various places that need dying and which would be too awkward to use the main nozzles on. It's nice to ride & spray and not have to carry anything! And no boom. I've reversed that sprayer bracket so it points upwards rather than down, after hitting the ground with it a few times. Works well in the bucket as I can adjust the height to make fine adjustments to the coverage area.

I finally tried the Grazon Next this spring. They were telling me it was high load so I did a test spray on a small pasture to figure out how much I needed and how fast I could spray with the boom.

I was very happy that 1 oz. per gallon and medium 3rd gear got it done. I told my guy at the feed store and he said I must have sprayed in the perfect conditions to get such good results with that combo.

I too sprayed my hay meadow with Grazonext a couple of weeks ago. I was after Wolly Croton and Carolina Horse Nettle. I treated a pasture with Grazonext last year and it completely eliminated Horse Nettle re-growth this year. I'm very pleased with the results.

I sprayed another meadow with Pastoral to control sandburs and Bahia grass and another meadow with Cimarron Max to control Bahia grass in May. I too use an Ag-Meir 100 gallon 3-point sprayer with folding booms and foam markers. I've been using the Ag-Meir (formerly Continental-Belton) spray rig for the past 7 years and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

I too have a private applicator's license.

The herbicide you choose to use depends on the weed(s) you want to control. Grazon P+D contains Picloram which remains in the soil for quite some time. It affects tree roots so you must not spray it near your wife's favorite oak tree. I don't use Grazon P+D for that reason. I had a bad problem with Carolina Horse Nettles and Bull Nettles. Both plants grow underground tubers which stores energy for them to return and spread each year. One of active ingredients in Grazonext travels through the plant's circulatory system to the tuber and kills it preventing re-growth.

Yes, a private applicator's license is required to buy many herbicides. To obtain the license, you must go to an all day training session, take a test covering the material in the session, make a passing score, and pay the license fee. To renew your license, in addition to the renewal fee, you must have attended required additional continuing education courses. Also, you must keep records of your spraying activity that are subject to inspection by Department of Agriculture inspectors. In your initial training, you will learn how to identify plants and determine the proper herbicides and the amount to use and when to apply it, safe handling of herbicides, proper record keeping, and how to properly calibrate your spray rig. I calibrate my sprayer each time I use it and I am very careful to apply the herbicide according to the instructions on the label.

Sounds like you got it all going right Bill, well done. Also glad to hear the Pastora worked well for you - - I havent used it yet but have heard its a good alternative and I especially glad I can get that johnsongrass & bahia. May I ask what foam marker you have?

Grazon P+D is a good product if you need pre-emerge ability as well as the 2-4-D for the foliar kill. But lots of people have trees in and around the meadow, so GrazonNext is a smarter choice. Ive heard good things also about Cimarron as well.

Bill, Im sure you have a good resource for CEU's on your license, but I have found a guy who offers a REALLY helpful alternative to getting CEUs, and its affordable and very convenient.

He offers a Private Applicator 10-hour 'at-home' recertification package for around $100. This package you do at home at your own pace and mail back to him to be graded. You still have to get the requisite 5-hours of class time somewhere, but Davids at-home package makes its LOTS easier to get the other 10-hours needed for recertification.

How is it on Yellow Star Thistle and China Lettuce? I have a L4600 with a sprayer but it's a tow behind. Looking at a 3 pt set up. Dog Fennel is a mess here in the PNW. Waiting for my LandPride mower shims to get here as they wear very fast here on my mowing situation.
