Thanks for all the replies. I called my oil company and again they are telling me not to worry..........but it sure sounds like I need to either use a kerosene mix or an additive...or maybe either both.

George2615, Where would I find Power Service ( White bottle) at?

Temps are to drop into the teens this week....so it should be a good test as to what might happen. If #2 fuel oil is the same as diesel. How do they keep that from gelling?

Thanks again for all the replies!!

In my area the local auto parts stores, Walmart, and local truck stop all carry PS in white and red (911) bottles

*:D I called my furnace man for a general cleaning and he told me I should mix my tank 50/50 since it's an outside tank. ;)

I live in the northeast. Central Pa. Anyone out there from this area that has any problems with an outside tank using fuel oil these days?

Thanks
;) *Ask around and see if folks put Kerosene in their diesel pick ups and cars. What do these people do take their tanks in the house at nite>?:D

Have a question. The oil company I buy my fuel from said I no longer need to use kerosene due to the fact that fuel oil does not jell unless we are at -20 for a peroid of time. They said an additive is put in fuel oil that prevents gelling. I called my furnace man for a general cleaning and he told me I should mix my tank 50/50 since it's an outside tank.

Nobody here is having problems do to their diesel cars and pick ups being outside.

Any additive you'd use in a diesel engine would work. But your tank is probably 275 - 300 gallons, so you'd need a lot of it. Check with SAC before doing this. Also, when the fuel in my line, not my tank, froze we had not been below -20F for a long period of time.
Takes the Same .6 per gallon as any other container.

What is the difference between the white and red bottles? Sorry I have to ask but I have no idea what I'll be looking for. Is it expensive?
