I am looking at purchasing the Kasco Versa-Drill no-till seed drill for some food plot work on my property. I will be using it behind a Kubota 5030 4wd. I think I could easily accomodate the 6 foot model but the difference in price between that and the 4 foot model is about 3K (3k more than my already stretched and spouse approved budget for this piece of equipment). My question is other than taking longer to put my plots in are there any other draw backs to going with the 4 foot setup on this tractor using the 3 pt hitch attachment. I realize I won't be covering my tractor wheels with only the 4 point hit model but I am wondering how much of an issue that is given I won't be loosening and working the soil before planting.

Also if anyone else has any thoughts or experience with the Kasco no-till drills I would greatly appreciate that feedback as well.

I pull a larger Truax drill, but the concept is similar. The worry I would have with planting native grasses and similar seeds is that they need to be right at the surface. In soft soil your tractor tires may bury them too deeply. For any seeds you may have compaction issues as you run over the previously seeded areas depending on your soil type. An option would be to leave a gap equal to the difference between your drilling width and tire spacing on the tractor.

Looked at it and it's a nice unit for the money.
