You are a patient person, however, I wouldn't be surprised if you get carpal tunnel from trying to explain this in scientific terms. I liked this guy's approach.

An article from a brewer.

Point of Brew: Dick and Jane explain coronavirus

“It’s easy to blame the lack of leadership from the White House and the dis-information and ridicule of COVID from right wing blowhards. They bear great responsibility for much illness and many deaths, that’s true. But each of us, individually, surely has a well-developed sense of self-preservation. “

Dang Moss, you sure you meant to post this political laced article?

A quick DDG search turned up this "biased listion of some papers on mask interventions.
7 randomized controlled trials show masks don’t stop infection… but let’s mandate them anyways! – MuchAdoAboutCorona.ca

I read through the first two papers on the list. The text is supportive of interventions, but very "iffy" in supportive statistical conclusions.

I did not read any of the other five references, but from the tenor of the poster, likely similar "findings" .

Oh well.....
I'm no infectious disease expert, but I work with one. She is always quick to point out that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is very different from seasonal influenza. It is even quite different from the even closer SARS-CoV-1 virus (the original SARS).

These differences are manifest in things like size, where it is shed (produced) in the body, and how long it stays infectious in the air, or on surfaces, as well as the concentration needed to infect someone.

It is highly misleading and poor science to try to extrapolate findings of infectivity from seasonal influenza, and effective mitigation strategies for controlling it's spread, to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

If it were that easy, we would all just get a vaccine for the seasonal flu, and this pandemic would be over ...

Please quote where Fauci said masks were a placebo.

Obviously if you're going to be in close proximity to anyone you DON'T know for sure has not been exposed or know they are not infected...it's common sense to take all available precautions...

LoL...I see peeps in cars by themselves wearing masks...!!!

Possibly, their hands aren't clean enough to take it off, then put it back on for the next stop? See, that's not so hard. Or in my case, my wife looks over at me and says, hey you still have your mask on, to which i make a snappy reply....well, maybe not so snappy.

As someone who understands the science of masks, and advocates for their use, this is every bit as stupid as the first post that started this conversation.

So why was the state of Wisconsin mandating the wearing of masks on teleconferences? The placebo effect. To make people feel better about masks. If it makes you feel better, wear them.

Wrong ...

If the powers that be truly wanted to know and report how effective wearing masks is...they would ask every person that gets tested a few questions about their mask wearing ( i.e., always in public, most of the time in public, sometimes in public, never etc., etc...) then publish that data along with the positive/negative test results...

The question is....

If masks work, why are they letting criminals out of prison?

I think it's ridiculous.

to prevent spreading the virus by *** in prison.. a mask won't prevent spreading the virus that way..

Not true. If you read the article it clearly states they asked employees to wear a mask to set a good example of compliance.

Still unnecessary in my opinion, as it opens it up for mockery, which causes more harm, as evidenced here.

Also, you never supplied a quote of when Fauci said they were a placebo effect (because he didn't).

Regarding the picture, everyone also has lapses in compliance.

On multiple occasions I have left the house and forgotten my mask.

I have walked into stores and forgotten to put one on, only to be asked to do so, and then have to quickly apologize for my forgetfulness.

I'd hate to be subjected to paparazzi style tactics waiting for a "gotcha" moment to be taken out of context, as there would be many. Yet somehow, when those cases occur that's what people latch onto?

In the past week I have see both sides of the spectrum while out in public...
While in Kohls buying clothes to go to a funeral I walked past the only bare faced person in the store, who muttered to me as I walked past "They can't make me wear one...

Earlier when at Tractor Supply I had to wait while the masked couple in front of me give a dissertation about how people who won't wear them are irresponsible and need to start volunteering at hospitals... I did allow them their 6 foot space but the 50 lb bag of grain on my shoulder was starting to get heavy. I was about to tell them what I thought about inconsiderate people who had nothing better to do than take up the clerk's time and mine, when they finally shut up and left.

It was right there in the meme posted, try reading it.
