"Just what are you doing here?"

That's what my future father in-law would ask every time I showed up at their house. :ROFLMAO:

Did you ever give him a REAL Honest answer?

No, but I gave him 'the look'. :ROFLMAO:

Fortunately, we got along great and they treated me like one of their own from day one. My mom and dad passed away when I was 27 and 34 respectively. I knew my father in law for 41 years before he passed away and my mother in law is still kicking... going on 46 years I've known her. It's like having two sets of loving parents. Very fortunate. I've found this forum to be the most diverse group of practical knowledge. I started when I bought a small piece of land and had my house and barn built. I needed support for my NorTrac (Jinma) tractor. After that, it's been just safety and rural living. I love seeing all the ideas people have. They certainly will impact my forever home when I find/build it in the coming years.

When I can, I've contributed based upon my knowledge and experience.
I recently realized that my brand new tractor is now 22 years old...

Yup, I just got rid of that NorTrac this last summer because my John Deere garden tractor mower deck was falling apart. I fell in love with the hydrostatic. I now have a zero-turn and the diesel is hydrostatic and pushed the snow. Much nicer than plowing with a garden tractor.

Time is going by way too fast. My new tractor is not 15 years old. She can’t be. But she is

I was real shocked to hear that my horses were 27, 23 and 21 years old. The youngest was born here, and I honestly thought she couldn’t be older than 10-11 years old.

Sucks

Yup, mine will be 26 years old in a few months. The second one I bought will be 23 years old soon.
I am convinced the older tractors have nothing to apologize for , they have done a massive amount of work already, will do plenty more in the future- and won't be fighting with a bunch of cracked plastic , complicated electronics, or newly developed undersized lighter duty parts! Rhino's passed 33 years, and the TLB Ford is 50 this year.

Then again a nice warm fully appointed Cab sure would be nice in the winter...

Do you get the lake effect snows where you are? Can't imagine a garden tractor coping very well with that.
The answer is "yes", but I certainly don't get what some regions get. They garden tractor with 4' plow angled would allow me to clear about 400' of gravel driveway in about 20 minutes if it was 3-5". If it was 6" it would take close to 40minutes. If it was more than that, I'd have to pull out the diesel and just do it with the 4' bucket. That would take over an hour. My son and I woke up in the middle of the night a few years to plow just because we knew it would be too much if left till daylight.

For those not aware of lake effect, it can be intense. I went 15 miles on the NYS Thruway one time between 2 exits near Rochester. It was sunny at one exit, was a COMPLETE white out where I was going ~30mph only able to see the reflectors on each side of the road. You just pray you don't hit someone and someone doesn't hit you. To sunny at the next exit. Just West of Rochester there was a white out yesterday on the Thruway. It was about 50 vehicles involved. When I go to work, you will hear how some people got 8" of snow and others get none. It's all lake effect.

I'm sure there are enough encouragers around here to help you spend your money on that tractor with a cab. North Idaho? If I were you, I would be looking for one now!
Just some of the good solid advice that goes along with the thread title!
