Just bought a boom pole

I just bought a boom pole. Has anyone found a really good use that use didn't think about doing until use got one? Anything unusual? Any customizations?

Also, I bought a Farm Force brand. The top-link point on on the pole looks like it has a weak spot at the weld. Anyone noticed any problems with it?

Because I didn't purchase a FEL with my Kubota 2350 I've used my boom pole several times. Real handy lifting stuff into my pickup or onto my utility trailer. I plan on adding rear remote hydraulics and hydraulic top link this spring. That will increase the lifting range and make it even handier.

When I get one, I'm going to have a quick-detach three-point mount for my loader so I can use the boom pole on the loader.

Can't lift as much as on the three-point, but you can lift lighter stuff a lot higher. I have seen threads on here where people have lifted roof trusses with front-mounted boom poles. I think having it on the loader would be really handy.

Since the boom pole usually mounts in the same hole as the top link, I don't think you will be able to use a hydraulic top link with it. You might be able to get some additional lift with it by changing the hole your side links connect to your lower lift bars, or by shortening your side links.

Boom poles mount to the top link like a usual 3pt implement. I don't think lift is a big issue since we have a loader with a 2200lb lift capacity, that lifts about 600 to the top at about 12ft.

I like them for skidding logs. Just hang tonges on the hook and you dont even have to get off of the tractor or mess around with chains. When I didnt have a loader, I used it for loading manure spreaders by hooking the boom to the top link position of a 3-pt pond-scoop and used some extensions on the lower links. That setup worked suprisingly well on my Ford 2000. I even used it to load a quite a few dump truck loads of topsoil. I find that it dont get nearly the use it used to since I got a front loader.

They are almost as handy as a FEL Used mine today to unload a 2 bottom breaking plow and 2 row cultivator i bought. Sometimes a boom pole is a better choice than a fel for loading or unloading things for a trailer or truck. If i'm going to be moving very far with something in the air i would rather have it behind me. Less chance of it swinging into the tractor. Also with a boom pole you have a longer reach than with a FEL. Of course a lot depends on how heavy the object you are picking up is.

Pretty far down my implement list, but I do have the FEL and use it a lot for misc. lifting. One use I have seen the boom pole used for is to lift a chain harrow for transport. That seems pretty slick to me, but that's another implement low on my list.

Not all boom poles mount with a adjustable top link. Some are just like post hole augers where they mount directly to the top link bracket on the tractor.

Good tool to have if you don't have FEL. I use it for a lot for lifting and moving stuff such as below.
