Not all boom poles mount with a adjustable top link. Some are just like post hole augers where they mount directly to the top link bracket on the tractor.

I can understand that, I just figured most were regular 3pt.

Kyle,

When i built my garage i ordered my trusses and they were all ready together, once they unloaded them i knew i had a problem. Trying to get them up 12ft.high, so i took a long piece of pipe and used a ratchet strap and went around the top of my bucket to hold it on.

It worked pretty good, i had a person on each side of the wall ready to nail them when i lifted them up.

I am planning on building another garage this summer, so i decided to build a boom-pole to be ready, i built this over the weekend.

It is 10ft. long, i cut another piece of pipe and put in on the end so it would fit into the hitch a little tighter, I took a couple pics. of it today on the tractor.

I just bought a boom pole. Has anyone found a really good use that use didn't think about doing until use got one? Anything unusual? Any customizations?

Kyle

I've got a boom pole as well, but not to use like most folks.....BobG in VA

Nice boom pole.. Just a suggestion before you attempt to lift anything heavy. I'd run something solid across the top like you see on most boom poles. Right now the load will be compressing the supports you have welded underneath. If you weld on top, the load will pull that part into tension. Much stronger. Just my thoughts.

Id also suggest maybe a chain or something to the edge of the bucket to prevent the sideward movement.

I have a hitch reciever on top of my bucket, and stick a pole in it to pick up fencing. I then staple the fencing and back up, reeling the fenceing off as I go..

However, I'm going to make a boom pole for the bucket. But I was thinking square tubing would be much stouter, then just follow the design of a standard boom pole till I get to the bucket. Sound like a good plan? Any of you already done this?

I am like most others, have a boom pole and never use it. I have a FEL so its dead last on the use items out of my 12 implements I have.

I did like the others and built one for my FEL that is 10 times better then the 3 point style.

I will probably have to do that,

When i just used a strap with the pipe it was a hurry up thing to get the trusses up. and the pipe was about 4ft. longer, it was just the pipe without any braces and it did bend.:D

I had the pipe just laying around and made the plate that sites in the
bucket, i may have $15 dollars in the hole thing right now.

I really didn't have a plan, just started welding and that's how it came out,

But thanks for your advice, when the weather warms up i may try a load on it and then see best way to reinforce it.

Id also suggest maybe a chain or something to the edge of the bucket to prevent the sideward movement.

Yea that is a good suggestion also,

I figure with it in the hitch it would go sideways that much, but a couple chains won't hurt anything.

I may weld a hook on each side of the bucket, and just weld a piece of chain on each side of the pipe to be on the safe side. I will leave some slack in the chain to get them in the hooks.

I agree with Diamondpilot, its probably on my bottom of the list to, but they are handy for putting up trusses, and maybe lifted something in the bed of a truck so you don't have to get so close with the tractor. I didn't have one and was needing one for the next build.

Thanks for the advice.
