john deere 650

I have a john deere 650 that ran well before someone attempted to hot wire it to steal. Know all it does is click at a relay under the dash..I have traced all the wiring to see if wires where burnt and everything looks good, the iginion switch seem to act alright but the pre heat light stays on all the time unlike before..

I hope someone here will be able to help. I didn't get too much time around my 650 this year. Bought it used in Sept and left it at the summer camp when we closed up for the year in Oct. I'll bet someone here will chime in.

I would start with presumption of a simple dying battery. Cold has pushed it into final decline.

When was a new battery last installed? Was it a quality battery like Interstate or a bargain from Walmart?

Clean and tighten the terminals. Tighten the ground connection. Charge battery. See if battery will maintain a charge.

Charged it should read 12.6 volts. 12.4 volts will usually do, usually. Less than 12.4 volts starting becomes difficult. Narrow margin.

If JD650 will start with a jump from another vehicle, you almost certainly need a new battery.
