John Deere 650 tractor 1986

I have a 1986 John Deere 650 tractor. it is currently stuck in 4x4, the shifting handle just free wheels like its not hooked to anything. the roll pin in the handle is good. Can I pull the shaft that the handle is mounted on? I am assuming that the shaft it broken or what ever it was driving is broken. Will pulling the shaft cause any issues.

I believe you're looking at a split to see much, there's not a lot to the shifter, it's just a matter of getting to it. I have a PDF of the technical manual you're welcome to if wanted, I'll PM you contact info for it
