I recently purchased a John Deere 494a corn planter and I am looking at cutting it down to a 2 row. I was wondering if you would recommend I make it a 3 pt or keep it as hydrolic lift. If 3pt I need help with keeping the drive wheel(s) working, and if hydrolic I need to know what size hydrolic cylinder I need to use. I do not have any cylinder to use.
Any help is appreciated. Thank You

The 494A uses a standard 8" stroke agricultural cylinder with 1" diameter pins. Depending on the system pressure of your tractor's hydraulic system, a 2-1/2" or 3" bore cylinder should work fine. If your tractor has less than 1200 psi relief setting, consider a 3-1/2" bore cylinder.
