John Deere 4520
Hi all,

I'm new to the site and am on a mission of finding out why I cannot get through a season without jumping or pulling out and charging my two 6 volt batteries for a John Deere 4520. I have been fighting this problem for a many years! I can run all night let set and cool down with all the lights off unhook the battery and come back in the morining if that old gal doesn't start right away then boom dead batteries. Any suggestions?

chriswestern, why don't you post this problem to the John Deere owning and operating section? There tend to be more people that would read there than would read a new member introduction.

Also, if you can, what year is the 4520, how long have you had it, have you tried new batteries, and anything else you've done.

Welcome, I look forward to seeing your posts. I have a 4520, but the the "new" one not the "old" one.

Pete

ive had the same battery in my jdz997 mower for 3 years - it sits in un-heated garage all winter and fires with no problems.

Hey chriswestern! Welcome to TBN :)

I moved your thread to the John Deere Owning/Operating Forum. You will get a better response there. ;)

I would charge them up and let them sit for a day fully disconnected and then run a load test on them. If they pass the test then reinstall them and test the starter. Are the batteries you are using the proper size and rating?
My 4020 had two 12volt batteries with a 24volt starter.
