I recently bought a John Deere 4250 with forward gears 1 2 and 3 not working 4 thru 12 working and 13 to 15 not working, reverse 1&2 don't work but 3&4 do work. I'm looking for a diagnostics and repair manual.
I would recommend the tractor diagnostic tech manual. It has complete transmission info plus complete tractor diagnostics. It is TM1259. The only thing that the trans manual does better is it shows updates to the transmission over the years. With the symptoms you're describing have a problem in the c1 clutch
Thanks, I talked to my local JD dealer today and ordered TM1259 $200.00 , they say I'll need TM1353 also and it's going to cost almost $400.00 cdn. Anybody know where I can download one cheap?
Got the manual this week and it confirms what jd110 said about C1 being the problem. When I got the manual it was $308.44 Canadian so I think I'll order the repair manual in cd form due to the cost. Is it worth doing all the tests before I split the unit or should I just get in there and fix the C1 and anything else that I see in the front part?
I agree with TxJim. I would not t split the tractor without doing proper tests. Your symptoms suggest c1 problem, but the tests might reveal underlying problem that caused c1 failure. You might have a short lived repair without all the information.
