John Deere/2010
I was having problems keeping my John Deere 2010 (Diesel) running, now it will not start I found that someone had replaced one of the steel diesel fuel lines with a rubber hose. I purchased this tractor used it ran and operated great for at least 5 years then out of the blue it would shut off every time I had the tractor on a hill it would run fine going straight down the hill but every time I need to go down at and angle the engine would just stop running, could the problem be the rubber fuel line someone put on could it have decomposed and sent some of the rubber into the ejector diesel pump and if so how do I clean this pump?

Thanks, DP

:welcome:
It's possible the rubber hose has deteriorated so I'd recommend to replace it. How long since fuel filter was changed? Is fuel tank vent open IE not plugged? Do you have good fuel flow from tank to inj pump?? It's possible inj pump drive coupler inside pump is deteriorating. This allows material similar to coffee grinds to be in inj pump. You can remove timing window on inj pump to inspect for this material.

I put new fuel filters and I plan on putting a steel fuel line back on in place of the rubber fuel hose on my JD 2010 what are you asking about when you ask me if (fuel tank vent open IE not plugged) to answer your other question do I have good fuel flow from the tank to the injection pump "Yes I do have a good fuel flow from the tank to the Injection Pump" every since I owned my JD 2010 I have needed to prime the diesel from the tank into the pump that is every time I ran the diesel out until there is only 1/4 of a tank or less left in the fuel tank so I have gotten putting good at telling if I have a good fuel flow or not when I have low fuel flow at least 3 times in a 5 year period I have changed the fuel filters and installed new filters then it would run like a top.

For fuel to exit tank there must be an open vent for air to enter tank or a vacuum in the tank will be formed

There is a screen in the inlet side of the injector pump could be restricted.

Where and what does the fuel lift pump look like and does my JD Model 2010 built in 1963 even have a fuel lift pump the reason I ask I own all the Tech Manuals for my Model 2010 and I have read all 700 plus pages over and over and no where do they refer to a fuel lift pump (Primer Pump) they only refer to the injection pump, another question I have can (where is the screen in the inlet side of the injector pump) is this screen under the top of the injection pump and will I hurt the pump if I that the four screws out and remove the top off the injection pump?

As I previously stated JD 2010 tractors had no fuel lift(transfer) pump when they rolled off assembly line at Dubuque,Ia. The fuel tank is located above IP/carb therefore gravity is utilized to get fuel from tank to engine. IIRC screen is parts key 15 and can be inspected by removing line then turn fitting CCW with no need to remove top of IP.
