As you stated glow plugs are activated by ing switch. IIRC regulator only controls charging voltage but has nothing to do with GP operation. GP's heat up so that fuel/air mixture in cylinders is easier to ignite.

For starting the fuel spraying on red hot injectors lights the air fuel mixture . As there is not high enough combustion chamber temperatures. With a cold engine and slow cranking rpms .

My John Deere 5205 does not have glow plugs or red hot injectors. It has just a heater for the air intake and it starts with no problem.

Ok thanks for your reply. JD 2010 was built from 1960-1965 while JD 5205 was built from 2000-2007. Would you care to guess the number of diesel technology advancements that's been made in those 40 yrs??? I'll guarantee you that your 5205 engine doesn't have pre-combustion chambers similar to a 2010 diesel

Darn it all. I meant red hot glow plugs , not red hot injectors . It's the difference between the precombustion chamber design with glow plugs. And the open combustion chamber that can not use glow plugs. Thus the intake manifold heater that uses electricity or burning fuel.

Sorry , a grammar error there . Cold weather starts are via the injectors spraying fuel on the red hot glow plugs .
