john deere 1520 hydraulic power steering problem

Does 1520 clutch pedal have any free travel? As a rule MF 165's are good tractors. I personally don't like MF's hyd systems but my repair knowledge for MF hyd's is limited.

design of the the john deere hydraulic the transmission/main hydraulic charge pump is driven with the transmission input shaft. So when depressing clutch all the way down you are shutting off this pump. The main hydraulic will operate for a short period with clutch down.

SORRY 4020deereboy but on a JD utility tractor such as a 1520 you are incorrect as the trans pump is driven from the pto input shaft not the traction shaft!!!!!!!!!!
