John deere 1219 haybine

I have a john deere 1219 haybine that i just bought, and Im have a few problems.
1. the non clog guards always pick up dirt. I set the angle of the gaurds and lifted the shoes all the way up.
2. Rollers have a clunk/growl when cutting. I set the timing of the rollers.
3. The knives dont cut very clean, I set the pinch to roughly twenty thow

Any help would be appreciated.

Show us a photo of a few knife, guard and hold down clips.

Then:

straight or serrated knives ?
knife bolt and bushing condition ?
drive belt slipping ?
knife drive snafu ?
what type of crop ?

It sounds like you are dragging the cutter bar along more than slicing with it.
