John Deer 318 deck won't engage

I have a 1993 318 John Deer in excellent condition but the mowing deck won't kick on. The voltage light is on until I flip the deck switch then the light goes out but the deck won't enagage. Any ideas??

Just a guess, but assuming yours has an electric PTO clutch, it sounds like the electric clutch might be shorted, or maybe it's stuck in a bind and it's drawing a lot of current when you switch it on.

If it's not too much trouble to remove, I would pull it off and test it on the bench with a 12VDC power supply.
