John deer 2020 start problems

hi all.. I have a friend with a 1975 jd 2020.. he is having a problem with intermittent start on his tractor. some times it starts with the key switch and sometimes he has to jump the starter solenoid..for some reason I can't find a wiring diagram does jd not have stuff online.. from the key switch there are some wires go to a little sealed box which I don't know what it is.. do these tractors have a start relay??thanks for any suggestions..

Have your friend look for the service tech manual for the 2020. That should help both of you track down the problem.

If battery negative cable is still attached to battery box I suggest to relocate cable attachment to engine block or starter mounting bolt. 2020 came from factory with no extra starter relay but JD offered a kit to field install a starter relay similar to photo below.
