Backhoe JD400 in aus

so i bought this poor old machine and i know absolutley nothing about it . i have no idea on its age or any of its controls its hard to start looking till i know what i i have there seems to be multiple gearbox options as well
so any advice out there

Bit of a difficult one as it's painted industrial yellow, yet there's nothing listed as a '400', or even a '400-J' (The German manufacturing plant is a clue, though). This site may be of assistance. TractorData.com - John Deere tractors sorted by model

yeah the jonnypopper site puts it as a 1969.
now to find an operators manual

It is interesting that JD Germany made these construction machines. I only ever thought of Manheim as making Ag tractors.

The good news is that it's probably one of the best tractors ever made. The bad news, is that if it is worn out and had been abused and neglected, you will wish you had never laid eyes on it.

yeah its pretty stuffed motor has water damage due to open exhuast for many years

I too thought industrial machines were only built in Dubuque. 400 Parts catalog only shows built in Dubuque designated by a T not an L.

Mine was built in Dubuque in 1970. I don't have it any more, but I do have a manual in a pdf. If I had your email address I can email it to you.
