JD LX 176 14HP Kohler problem

I got a basket case mower to repair for a friend. I think this was not the original motor. I cant find the pulse port for the fuel pump. I have been using the port off the valve cover. I doubt this is the right one because I believe it goes to the air cleaner. Any help greatly appreciated.

Is that a K series engine??
Not sure on the 14 hp kohlers but the K301 12 hp i just worked on has a cam driven mechanical pump and pretty sure All K series are this way

Also some were built with just a cover over the fuel pump mount point.

I think you are correct about this not being the original motor. I had a LX 176 and it had the Kawasaki engine.
