Does the bendix gear need to be lubed, or should it be installed dry? It's plastic, and the shaft it rides on is plastic.

I assume that you are talking about the gear on the starter.

Plastic gears should not need lube. If you have the starter disassembled, cleaning up the shaft and the inside of the gear is all you should need to do.

If it is acting up and not engaging properly, just a shot of carb cleaner should do the job and you should not have to disassemble.
