JD955, that's a nice machine...I have had several.
If the backhoe is not leaking down visibly and the leaks are
internal (valve or piston), I would leave it alone. Use the
transport lock to keep the boom up when using the tractor for
other work. If it takes an hour to drop to the gound, that is
not that bad. If the fluid is hot, it will leak down faster.
Personally, I tend to not use my hoe's boom lock, because then
I forget it is engaged and have to get off to disengage. I don't
drive my main tractor with hoe very long distances, but I do
periodically reach around and raise the boom to keep it from dragging.
I lower the boom to the ground whenever I park the tractor.
