JD 790 Mid-PTO Issue

Good day all

I have a 2004 JD 790 4x4 with the mid-pto. I currently am running a JD 59" front mount snow blower. I'm having an issue when trying to engage the pto it grinds and either won't engage or engages momentarily then kicks back out. After a few tries I'm able to get it to stay engaged. I'm worried I'm damaging something, but with the amount of snow we're getting in Northern Ontario, and 1000+ feet of driveway I don't have much of a choice. Does this sound like a linkage issue? Can and how can this be adjusted? Any other thoughts? I appreciate any help.

jerwilhelm, I have the same 790/JD59 set-up and I've found throttling back the RMPs and being on level ground then slowly engaging the mid-pto helps. Here's another thread, good info......If the blower resistance get too high the shear bolts will break, you should have extras on hand..............
