JD 650, 4520
Need some help with questions on a JD 650 as I am looking at one to buy. Does it have a live pto/two stage clutch like the bigger 50's. Does it have an overrunning clutch built in? Any other little things that I should be aware of? Thanks for the help.

Great little tractor, but no live PTO/two stage clutch. Also no overrunning clutch built in but could be added.
No standard power steering, but a kit was available from Deere. This tractor like most of the "50" series is pretty much bullet proof. Most parts are still available for this tractor from Deere. How many hours on the unit you are looking at? Oh, did I say great little tractor.

The hourmeter says 138 but have no real proof. The tractor is super clean and has not been repainted and does not need it. No dents or dings anywhere. The paint is not wore off the pedals or floor boards. Any other little quirks would be welcome. I am going back and forth on this unit or a gray yanmar.

The only advantage of a Yanmar would be the PowerShift (if it has it...) But parts availability is no comparison. Yes, you can find parts for most Yanmar things, but it is nothing compared to what Deere ofers.

If you live in a cold climate, get a block heater. Because it has a 2 cylinder it is difficult to start in cold weather. Other than that, it is a great little tractor.

I decided to buy the 650. It is near Atlanta and I am in Western NY so that is my next problem. I am terrible with computers but will try to post pictures when I can get somebody to haul it up here. Still, any suggestions on the 650 or transport would be welcome.

Where in WNY are you located? I know a couple of haulers in the area. I almost bought a 650 a couple of years ago with a 60" deck for $4500. The guy ended up not having the deal work out on the tractor he was buying so I ddin't get it. Great tractor though.

I am South of Buffalo but need the tractor delivered to my work on the lakefront in the city. I work for a trucking co. that does local work but I have no contacts for over the road. Any help would be appreciated. A friend has almost the same set up with his 2210 and he loves it.Thanks. Hope it doesnt snow to bad this year.
