JD 613 gear box

The gear box on my rotary cutter gave up the ghost yesterday. Trying to decide whether to replace the gear box or get a new (used) cutter.

1. Where is a good place to look for just the gear box? Have not found just a gear box searching so far.

2. The 613 was never really heavy duty enought for what I cut, 8 acres of rocky hill. The deck itself has been welded up several times! Suggestions on other decks to look at? I am not married to JD!

Is it the bearings, seals or gears that went out.

The gears and bearings both are shot and of the 4 mounting points, three are cracked (have been for a long time). I suspect the box is cracked, the fluid leaked out and you know the rest. the deck is in pretty bad shape. If I could get a gear box for $ 500 or $600 that would work, I can weld up the deck. If not, I was looking for recommendations for better deck to begin with.

Give me the SN# of the cutter and all the markings off of the gear box. I can help you out possibly.

SN# W00613x018480. I dont see any markings on the gear box itself.

JD manual says it is a 45hp gear box.

I young guy I work with might want this old piece of junk. Can anyone answer the question about a generic gear box? Why he couldnt buy a generic 45 hp gear box and not the expensive JD one? Are the output splines different on the JD?
