I bent my very bad and I went to a machine shop and bought a 48" long 1" diameter cold roll steel rod and made it a one piece assy. It has worked for seven years and no problem. I did drill the hold the pins that keeps the rod in place. Mike
John Deere 542 FEL has 2 main pins which the bucket assembly rotates up or down on. Between these pins (on the same axis) there is a 40" by 1" stainless steel rod pinned into 2 welded sockets. It is called a Timing Rod. I tore mine up on a stump. How critical is this rod and what is its purpose??

Thanks.
