John Deere 2520, 5303, 5320, Z997R
My JD dealer has a "new" 2008, 5303; the last of 18 they bought just before the economy bottom fell out. I would like some feedback from anyone who owns one. I need to replace my 1962 JD 2010 with something newer. I will be using it for running my New Holland haybine and baler. Any opinions? Also, what should this thing be selling for being three years old and "new".

5303

Factory: Pune, Maharashtra, India

I'd pass. If you considering a tractor from a "Eastern" factory you might as well get into a Mihindra or the like. Your going to be paying a lot more for that Green paint w/o getting green quality.

Can you provide even the tiniest bit of fact to back that statement up?

I actually own one of these tractors. In fact, a 2008 5303. It's a simple and stout tractor. It is about 1100 lbs heavier than the Kubota M5040 I looked at and uses the 2.9L Powertech 3029 motor that is well proven.

Pound for pound, this is one of the best deals JD has going. I started out looking at the 4000 series Deeres and found this to be a substantially larger tractor for substantially less money, albeit with less creature comforts.

Here are some numbers from January of this year from the Deere Configurator:

$32,629 -- 4720 Open Station
$40,499 -- 4720 Cab
$24,474 -- 5065E MFWD (5303 equivalent)

I have never once regretted buying this machine, and with a little searching, I suspect you'll find similar sentiments from other actual owners.

Sure, HAD one (5303) and fella down the road has a similar size mahindra. They are about the same low tech machines. Not bad, just not real refined. I HAVE a 4120. A lot nicer unit.

I agree, a 5303 is a lot of tractor for the price. It is a no frills, basic tractor but really serves it's purpose.

I'll buy that. I agree that it is a very low-tech, simple tractor.

I'm sorry if my post sounded inflammatory. I just want to be careful not to confuse features with quality or value.

I am obviously biased, but I also like to think there is some value in the green paint beside the tractor. Dealer support, parts availability, resale value,... Stuff like that.

It is a good simple tractor. I would not go back to a tractor without at least a power reverser transmission.

I bought a new 5303 CHA 3 yrs ago and have had O problems and it is very effecient to operate and super comfortable in the cab. Gave $32,000 cash for it and would buy another one in a heartbeat, If I needed one.The tractor does all the hard work on 300 + acres and 200+ head of cattle. Ken Sweet
