I have a 1997 JD 5300 2wd. The steering cylinder is leaking and I need advice on how to replace the seals in the cylinder. Does anyone know how to break this item apart? I believe it is a part number RE284628 or RE45885. It has the cylinder arms on both sides for left and right.

Post a pic of the cylinder around the gland area. There are only a handful of ways cylinder gland caps are attached to the barrel. One of which are too difficult to disassemble...but some are not so obvious if you have never messed with hydraulics.

The Manual that another gentleman shared with me (very much appreciate iated) just says to take end caps off but doesn’t state how to do that exactly. I’m mainly trying to prevent further damage when I start taking it apart. 7309F17C-9ED2-4922-A435-6BD46116FC7D.jpegD7F93736-E1C3-4FA1-B1C4-184234ADEAEB.jpeg3955727F-66E3-4AF3-B299-2A1442F2A1EE.jpeg6FE8EDBA-D0D9-4C65-9979-4B6F1D1ABFA5.jpeg

I posted a pic down the line in thread. Not sure if they attached or not.

Worst part of that job is getting the tie rod ends off the cylinder rod.
Do you happen to know how the caps come off?

I'm wondering if they are not physically attached the the barrel.

Since it bolts in from both sides....maybe the manual doesn't elaborate....since maybe they do just "remove" from how you have the cylinder now.

Try taking a dead blow hammer and tapping off one of the ends

That's my take on it. Glands are both bolted to the axle. O-rings seal them to the barrel, nothing more.

Thanks everybody. I’ll get the parts ordered and give it a go. I’ll let ya know how it goes.
