John Deere 5210
I recently bought a john deere 5210 tractor with 520 loader and noticed the lift cylinder is leaking oil, but it worked fine for a few days. Now when I start the tractor something is making noise, I think its the hydraulic pump but not sure (also the noise seems to go away after running a little while). But the problem is the hydraulics dont work, when I try to lift the loader it will try to lift and will sort of bump up, not smoothly and the power steering is not working well anymore. Yes the hydraulic oil is full but the oil looks like it has some water in it, its kind of milky but the fluid thats been leaking from the loader is like coffee. I Know the fluid should be changed but I dont understand why it was working fine when the seller was demoing and while I had it for a few days and suddenly stop working. Any ideas? thank you

Sounds like you have a air leak on the intake side of the pump. Check all fittings, clamps, and the line real close. It might not show up as a oil leak.

Also you might clean the intake screen, I'm not sure where it is on your JD.

Since the rear brakes operate in hyd oil & water is detrimental to brake linings I would recommend to change milky hyd oil ASAP.

Im not even sure where the hyd pump is, is there a service manual or something I could find online to learn more about this tractor and how to do maintainance on it?

In your case it is best, before anything else is to get a manual. The best place to start would be your JD dealer nearest you. They are not cheap and there is none on line for free.

The transmission is the hydraulic fluid sump. You may be missing the fill cap and are getting water into it. Or you're suckng water & air in the suction hoses from the transmission. Was this tractor ever in deep water? I noticed the pic you posted in July of your leaking loader cylinder has "milky" fluid leaking. So you've had a problem for several weeks at least.

Get thee to a mech quickly.... since you're having pump problems now. brake problems later, Steering problems later, 3 point problems later, transmission problems later too. All these function are connected to the transmission fluid.
