I got the 12 speed tranny with the reverser.
I got the 12 speed tranny with the reverser.
A dealer had a 5055e at the fair this summer. I asked him about the integrated joystick, he said he didn't think it was available on the 50xxe's. I didn't follow up to see if he was correct or not.
My third function for the loader comes off one of the two rear remotes and is controlled by one of the levers to the right of the operators seat. So you can only do one thing at a time but when you look at it you can't curl the bucket while raising the loader arms so having this function on the joy stick would still be a one function at a time deal. If you need crowd and curl with the thumb all at the same time get a Cat 330.
I understand what you are saying, the switch still only allows one function at a time: normal FEL motions or grapple clamp.
How do you like your seat-side lever? I'm sure either works fine as far as getting the job done. I guess you could do all at the same time if you had a hand on the joystick and a hand on the side lever?
I'm just trying to assign a pros/cons weight as to how useful this is when comparing the various offerings.
You have circled all the way back to the Cat 330 . But if you intend to use it, then get the most user friendly and effective system, regardless of cost.
Whether the push buttons on a joystick allow more than one function or not depends on how they are plumbed.
For example, if you purchase a Kubota 3rd function you get the ability to use two functions because it is designed using a solenoid operated hydraulic valve operating on it's own circuit. So when a button is depressed hydraulic flow is divided between that function and whatever else you have activated. So both have motion, the speed is then limited by the tractor's gpm. If one of the 3rd function buttons is not pushed all flow goes to other functions and the 3rd function movement stops. With this type of setup you will have two buttons added to the joystick handle. Each selects a different direction for flow in the 3rd function and other functions can still be performed.
For example, if you purchase a NH tractor with their 3rd function you get the ability you are talking about as in only one function at a time. If the button is depressed a diverter valve stops flow to the curl function of the FEL and sends it all to the 3rd function. Release the button and flow to the 3rd function stops and all flow goes to the curl function. Thus, only one thing happens at a time. With this type of setup you will only have one button on the joystick and only one function, curl or 3rd, happens at any given time.
When I was shopping that's one of the biggest reasons I did not buy a NH. For add-on homemade kits I'm okay with a diverter valve. But for a factory option that's just offensive to me. To be blunt, it's cheap on their part and limits use VERY much. But most buyers won't know the difference until they've used it......
If you have diverter type 3rd function on the joystick you are only one small step from having 3rd function using the rear remote. You just don't have to move your hand to the rear remote control lever, you can do it on the joystick.
I use my 3rd function a LOT, 90% of my FEL use is with a 3rd function attachment. I have true 3rd function and it's very, very common to be doing multiple functions with the joystick.
My Brother's L3240 gets it's 3rd function from his one rear remote. His setup just frustrates me and I only use his tractor if forced to for 3rd function tasks.
When buying a new tractor with 3rd function I suggest asking detailed questions concerning it's design. If you can't confirm the style the tractor has with the salesman, then go talk to the mechanics at the shop.
If you are content to run hoses from the rear remote or are not concerned about true 3rd function abilities then maybe you should rethink spending the money anyway. But if you intend to use it, then get the most user friendly and effective system, regardless of cost.
