After some more testing, I replaced the voltage regulator. I think I have solved my problem.

I think I solved my problem as well.
It appears that the battery cable connections weren't as good as they should have been, leading to poor charging of the battery, and the starter relay failed - two not necessarily related problems.
Seems to be running fine now - we'll see if the battery holds up.
