jd 318 problems

got my 318 out of the barn recently, would not start - just clicked. After researching here and elsewhere, I replaced the starter solenoid, the battery and bought the JD solenoid booster kit. While installing the booster harness, I noticed the white wire to the oil pressure sensor was off. Snapped it back on, changed the oil filter and first attempt, the 318 roared to life. However, the oil light stays on! After driving it a bit, the engine is now stalling anytime I put it in gear - runs great in neutral, PTO works but move the hydro lever and the engine dies - anyone have a clue as to what's going on? BTW, the oil is full to the line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm at my wits end!

Check your safety switches. Are you sitting on the tractor when the engine dies? Is your hydro oil level full? Has it been awhile since you changed the hydro filter. Also I would not run it too long with the oil light on, may be just a bad sensor or ground, or the engine may have other problems.

Yes, sitting on the seat the mower would die - intermittent though. I was able to get it back in the garage by moving hydro till it would work, seemed to be less likely to die when in reverse. Bought the unit 2 years ago, from a local JD dealer - was supposed to have had a complete going over. Have maybe used it 20-30 hours since then. So, no, have not changed the hydro fluid.
