JD 2520 ROPS pin alignment

I bought my 2520 in August of 2008 and noticed the same thing when they dropped it off. The dealer told me that it was a common issue on the folding ROPS. The dealer's solution was to try and shift/torque the ROPS to get the holes to align, but that didn't work. When I voiced my dissatisfaction, they told me that they understood, but that JD would not warranty it and replace the FROPS. I didn't push the issue because I just don't have the time or patience to do it so I just use 1 of the pins. Eventually I will hog out the misaligned hole.

I will guarantee that if you contact JD about this, and explain that its a complete SAFETY liability, that they will listen real close. Especially if you tell them that you can't install the ROPS in the UP position, and that you are known for rolling your tractors over. That would be a huge lawsuit against them, and they don't want that.

Sounds to me like this should be a recall issue. I don't know how that process works whereas manufacturers have to put out a recall though.

Recall, safety issue or whatever, I am sure if the tractor is taken back to the dealer or recalled they will just bore out the holes and send you on your merry way.

I bet that would be an "appropriate" fix according to JD.

I had exactly the same problem when I bought a 3520 new last June. When he came for the 50 hours, the mechanic from the dealer used a pneumatic tool to file the holes into alignment, but he had to remove quite a lot of metal. Also to be careful not to make the holes too big or the ROPS would shake and rattle. He said the problem "wasn't uncommon" with new JDs.

I had to beat the crap out of my pins to get em out. But then I removed the upper half of the ROPS as it doesn't clear the ceilings on my loafing shed and parking area. I'd like to be able to keep it on, but I live on flat ground anyway.

I reckon i got lucky with my 2320 - After many, many attempts, I figured out that if I install the right side pin first (it goes in without problems) , then I can pull the rops forward just a tad and get the left side to go in..

Now that is strange. Right side was fine on my 2320 also, I reamed both sides! I am beginning to think all this was designed that way. I do know my ROPS bar does rattle now.

Does anyone know the diameter of the ROPS pins?

Here's the spec's for the snap ring used on the pin. Size of pin is stated at 0.750"
