JD 24T Versus NH 268 baler

Thanks Ken, upside here is most ground fairly flat.......have a small hill in back, maybe 300' up or down, but it would be straight up/down, no side traveling....

If the hill has much slope, these balers can push you into a downhill slide and that could be dangerous. Ken Sweet

They both are good balers. I have personally ran a 268 New Holland and had excellent service from it. In case you need help with the baler when it goes down, I would pick the one that had the best support in your area. Ken Sweet

One thing I dislike about JD 24 series balers are the plunger head adjustment bridges with pads(parts keys 15 & 16) that are held on PH with one bolt that have a long history of breaking and the bridge can get lost in the field.
Years back I baled some hay with a JD 214 sq baler pulling it with a JD BO(14 HP). I just dropped hay on the ground IE no hay rack.

While old they are both quality balers; your results will depend on which one has "the big one" first, hopefully neither. I share others concern about a low weight tractor pulling one of these heavy machines. At best you'll get a little seasick from the rocking action the plunger will telegraph all the way up to the operators seat, some of the worst have already been brought up. If I had to do it the deciding factor would be which dealership is closer/better.

I agree with Messicks.....I have owned and used a JD24t with MF 35 and a Ford 601 both ran the baler but were on the light side. Both were quality balers in their day circa late 50's ans 60's
