JD 2240 Info

I am thinking about buying a JD 2240. The engine has been rebuilt and the entire tractor painted. I can find very little information on this model. The SN is 214382 L, code 224SA. I know that it was made in Mannhiem, Germany. The seller tells me it wade built in 1986, but another source tells me that model was only made until 1982. Does anyone know when this may have been made? How much does it weigh? What is a fair price? The rear tires need to be replaced, all four work lights need replacing and the draw bar and bracket are missing.

That is the same as the JD 1640 sold up here. first off the pto hp should be 50.9,not 59.9 as the site says. From what I can find your serial number puts the tractor as a 1976.

That's not a bad utility tractor. Around 50 some pto hp. I believe your friend was right. They only made those until 1982. The first year they made them was in 1976. Around here one would go for between 4 and 7k. If it was recently overhauled and had a new paint job but needed tires, draw bar, and lights a fair price would probably be $5-6k.

Those old ones seem to run forever. One thing I like is how the range and gear shift are right in front of you.

That series of tractors have a bad reputation in this area. Lot of major hydraulic problems from the main pump on thru the system--Should be bought at $4-$5K (If there are no oil puddles underneath)--Ken Sweet

Yup...you were right. It was released in 1976. I have since decided against this tractor. I really feel like I should get a 4wd if I plan to install a loader. By the time I spent the money installing a loader on this one, the whole thing looked like a mediocre deal at best.
