jc penny/mtd

i recently came across a tractor that said jc penny writen along the side. i talked to the owner and he said that it was a 1969 jc penny tractor with a 16 hp briggs and is hydrostatic drive. it has a plow, mower, and 3pt hitch. can anyone tell me any info on these tractors.

MTD made tractors for JC Penny, along with lots of other brands. If it's hydrostatic, it's a model 990. Great tractors - I have 2 of them.

I have one but it has the 18 hp twin cylinder Briggs on it. it isn"t a hydrostatic tho. I have started restoring it but still a ways to go. It does run and cut fine tho.
